VI. A note overclocking the new processor based on Intel® Core™
The new processor now runs with a low multiplier and higher FSB. Previous generation of processor based on 800MHz will be happy to run on DDR2-533MHz with 1:1 settings and will have enough room to spare. However, with the advent of this new processor and higher FSB, the need to for known overclocking RAM or higher rated memory modules is becoming a must rather than nice to have. While this isn't much of a bad thing since there are many RAM modules today capable of running 1000MHz, however, if you have an old memory module with 533MHz frequency, then you might want to upgrade to better speed quality.
VI. Closing Thoughts
This processor shows that a need for a pricey CPU to get that uber boost in performance has just finally met its end. Of course, till CPU intensive applications and operating system arrives, the processor at this speed shows that it's not just your typical dual core CPU that you have come to get used to but a totally different animal that has a lot of reserves in terms of overclocking. The higher multiplier also helps overclocers achieve higher frequency without having to resort to uber high FSB, which, some motherboards may not be able to support.
I have touched this already in my other article, but I will just repeat it again: warranty. Intel® provides a solid 3Year warranty on its retail boxed processor. Using the processor at a stock speed will not void the warranty, however, once overclocked, then say goodbye to your warranty. While this should be common knowledge already, I just feel the need to emphasize it and remind everyone to play safe with their rig and don't do drastic changes as this can mean getting your system to be unstable.
If anyone is looking for a performance dual core playtoy or just planning on building a great all around rig with o without some overclocking planned, then this processor is a definite fit. The processor is relatively cool compared to their older cousins Intel® Pentium® D 900 and 800 series processors and offers a competitive performance at its price point. If you are looking for that one more pimping rig, look no further, because this is it.
